Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything families usually ask us before their first bottle — and quite a few things they ask after.

About A2 Milk

What is A2 milk?

A2 milk is cow milk that contains only the A2 variant of beta-casein protein. It is produced naturally by indigenous Indian cow breeds like the Gir. Unlike regular milk from crossbred cows (which contains A1 protein or a mix of A1+A2), A2 milk does not release the BCM-7 peptide during digestion, making it gentler on the stomach for many people.

What makes Gir A2 milk different from regular milk?

Most commercial milk comes from crossbred cows and carries a mix of A1 and A2 beta-casein proteins. Indigenous Gir cows produce only A2 — the protein many people find easier on digestion. Our milk also comes from a single herd that grazes free, so you're drinking one farm's milk, not a pooled blend.

Is A2 milk suitable for lactose intolerant people?

A2 milk is not lactose-free. However, many people who believe they are lactose intolerant may actually be sensitive to the A1 protein in regular milk. These individuals often find that they can enjoy A2 milk comfortably. If you have a confirmed lactose intolerance, consult your doctor.

Can children drink A2 Gir cow milk?

Yes, A2 milk is safe and beneficial for children. Its protein structure is closer to that of human breast milk, making it easier for young digestive systems to handle. Many paediatricians recommend it as a gentler alternative to regular cow milk.

About Our Products

Do you homogenize or standardize the milk?

Never. Homogenization breaks the cream into the milk so it looks uniform; standardization strips and re-adds fat to hit a number. We do neither. Your bottle will show a natural cream line on top — that's how you know nothing was touched.

What is bilona ghee?

Bilona ghee is made the Vedic way — from whole-milk curd, not cream. The curd is hand-churned on a wooden bilona to extract makkhan (white butter), which is then slow-simmered over a gentle flame. It takes approximately 30 litres of A2 milk to make just 1 litre of bilona ghee. The result is grainy, golden, and deeply aromatic.

Is fresh, unprocessed milk safe to drink?

Yes — with care, and we take a lot of it. Our milk is chilled to 4°C within minutes of milking, bottled in sterilised glass, and delivered within hours. Every batch is tested before it leaves the farm. We still recommend a gentle boil at home before drinking, exactly as Indian kitchens always have.

Why glass bottles instead of pouches?

Glass keeps milk tasting like milk — no plastic leaching, no odd smells, and it's endlessly reusable. Leave the empty bottle out in the morning; we collect, sterilise, and refill it. Less waste for the planet, better milk for you.

About Our Farm

How many Gir cows do you have?

We currently have over 40 Gir cows on our farm near Surat, Gujarat. Every cow has a name and is raised with care — free-grazing, organic feed, no hormones, no antibiotics.

Do the calves get milk first?

Always. This is a non-negotiable at Goras Organic. The calves drink first, every morning — and only after they've had their fill do we milk what the cows offer. We will never change this.

How should I store bilona ghee?

In a dry glass or steel jar with the lid closed, away from direct sunlight — no refrigeration needed. Always use a dry spoon. Kept this way, bilona ghee stays beautifully for months; in most homes it never gets the chance.
